KHAIRPUR: Canal breach inundates crops

KHAIRPUR, Nov 13: Faiz Nahar Wah developed a 100-foot breach at RD-197 near Agra town, Sobhodero taluka, was reported on Sunday morning.

The gushing water inundated sugarcane and cotton fields, orchards of dates and mangoes and other seasonal crops spread over 200 acres of land besides the office of UC nazim and government high school, Agra. The breach could not be plugged till the filing of this report.

However, water flow in Faiz Nahar Wah has been lowered from Ripri regulator. Faiz Nahar Wah, fed from Khairpur west feeder Abul Wah irrigates lands of Sobhodero and Gambat tehsils.

The affected growers and villagers told reporters that breach was result of digging of an illegal watercourse. However, according to irrigation officials, breach developed due to weak embankments.
