MUZAFFARGARH: District Council Chairman Umer Gopang has appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to extended the tenure of district councils for seven months, the period the government set on the court orders regarding the restoration of the councils.
Addressing the district council, the chairman said the court reinstated the local government system on March 25, 2021, but the government allowed the council to resume after seven months. He said he was grateful to the chief justice for restoring the LG system.
More than 100 union council chairmen attended the session.
The session offered Fateha for nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer. Chief Officer Mohammad Iqbal Khan briefed the session that the budget of the Muzaffargarh district council was Rs1.3 billion which the UC chairmen would be allowed to utilise after government approval.
Mr Gopang said that the income of Sardar Koura Khan land should be under the control of the district council as per the will of the late Koura Khan who donated 84,000 kanals for free education and health of Muzaffargarh people.
He said the land was not being used. He asked chairmen to give schemes of Rs4 million each within three days and start the development projects.
Gopang was elected the district chairman on the PML-N ticket by the Gopang group but in the general elections, Gopangs defected to the PTI and and now Mr Gopang also joined the ruling party.
He said to the union council chairmen to sit in their offices and work for people.
