ISLAMABAD: The government of Jordan has notified three Pakistan-based slaughterhouses for export of meat products.

A Ministry of Commerce (MoC) announcement said that the slaughterhouses — Tata Best Food Limited, the Organic Meat Limited Company and Tazij Meat and Food — can export all types of meat (bovine, sheep, goat and camel) to Jordan.

“I would like to urge our exporters to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this non-traditional market for meat,” Commerce Adviser Razak Dawood said. He also suggested seeking a market for other sectors like potato, mango, kinno and onion to diversify exports from Pakistan.

Pakistan exported meat and meat products worth $78.283 million between July and September this year as against $75.376m over the corresponding months of last year, indicating a marginal growth of 3.86 per cent.

In quantity level, the export of meat and its products stood at 18,344 metric tonnes in the first three months this year as against 12,570 metric tonnes last year.

The MoC is encouraging the export of meat and its products from the country despite its rising prices in the domestic market for consumers for the last several months amid inflation.
