Trials for Junior Hockey World Cup begin

KARACHI: Two-day trials to select Pakistan team for the upcoming Junior Hockey World Cup commenced at the Abdul Sattar Edhi Stadium on Friday.

The Junior World Cup is due to be held at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in India from Nov 24 to Dec 5.

With the exception of chairman selection committee Manzoor Hussain Jr, other selectors namely Kaleemullah, Ayaz Mahmood, Nasir Ali, Waseem Feroz and Khalid Hameed were in attendance.

“Manzoor Jr was taken in the loop online as his wife is hospitalised in Lahore,” one of the selectors told Dawn.

PHF President retired Brig. Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and secretary Asif Bajwa also watched the trials.

In all, 29 probables who are attending the camp, are taking part in the trials.

The selectors tried different combinations in two sessions of 40-minutes each on the opening day.

An 18-member team will be announced after the trials on Saturday.

The trials resume on Saturday at 3.30pm.
