Reflection: The rain

Published October 30, 2021

The last lesson of my school day was going on. As per the predictions, we all were waiting for a the rain to start, leading to happiness and an end to the heat of the burning sun.

Around 1:30 pm, the black clouds started to appear and in minutes, the whole sky was wearing a warm greyish-black coat. As our class was so tired and sleepy after a tiring day, we asked our teacher for some rest. Slowly, the beautiful raindrops started to fall on the window.

My friend, sitting by the window, yelled, “Oh my God! It’s raining!”

My classmates and I jumped with happiness and our lethargy just disappeared. What a beautiful moment it was! Not only our tiredness but the unbearable heat also vanished in a matter of minutes, thanks to the amazing cold winds and the light rain shower.

Ah! It felt so pleasant when a raindrop landed on my hand. Every one played games and had lots of fun.

Soon, it was time for departure and everyone, even the teachers, were excited to be soaked in the rain as they headed to their waiting cars and vans. A very long line of students stood on the stairs.

Afterwards when we got to the yard, the parents had started to arrive to pick up their children. It had been only half an hour since the rain started, but the roads were filled as if it had rained half the day. We were super excited to go home and enjoy the rain with our family. Our teachers told us to pray that we all reach home safely.

I was in the car and going home happily, whispering a sweet tune in the wonderful weather. On the way, I saw something which made me feel so blessed but also helpless because I couldn’t do anything.

I saw homeless people at several places, making a shelter for themselves with some cloth or sticks. I wish I could help them in this weather so that they won’t be soaked. I reached home safely and enjoyed the rain.

The next day, I got dressed for school and went to the school. The rain had vanished and a bright sun was shining, which made the streets look as if it rained a long time ago. I saw the same people on the streets and thought of what were they waiting for. Perhaps they were waiting for their fortune to shine on them or waiting for something which will change their lives?

If we want to have a good fortune, we must work hard and face struggle bravely. I couldn’t help them that day, but I have decided in my mind that one day I will bring change in their lives by working for the betterment of the country.
