ISLAMABAD: Two more deaths and 148 new cases of dengue fever were reported in the capital in the last 48 hours.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia said one death each was reported on Sunday and Monday. A resident of I-11/1 who was admitted in a private hospital died ofthe fever on Sunday. The patient who passed away in a private hospital on Monday was a resident of Naiabadi, Bhara Kahu.

The death toll from the dengue fever in the capital in the current season reached 14, the DHO said, adding eight deaths were reported from the rural and six from the urban areas.

On Sunday, 102 cases - 57 from rural areas and 45 from urban areas - were reported while on Monday 46 cases were reported - 34 from urban and 12 from rural areas.

Out of the total 148 cases, 23 each were admitted in Pims and Federal General Hospital, 11 in Holy Family Hospital, six in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, two each in Capital Hospital Polyclinic and one in DHQ hospital Rawalpindi.

Of these, 17 cases each were reported from Tarlai and Koral, 14 from Alipur, seven each from Koral and Bhara Kahu, four from Sohan, two from Sihala and one from Chirrah.

The tally of dengue fever cases in the capital in the current season reached 3,643, he said, adding 2,084 cases were reported from rural and 1,559 from urban areas.

During the last 48 hours, 1,003 houses indoor residual spray and 182 fogging activities were conducted in different areas to prevent the spread of the fever and eliminate the potential breeding sits of larva.

Teams from the District Health Office also found 622 potential breeding sites of larva in different union councils and eliminated them.

APP adds: As many as 75 dengue cases arrived in the three public sector hospitals in the Rawalpindi city in the last 24 hours, raising the tally of confirmed cases to 2,546.

District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control Dr Sajjad Mehmood said the HFH had registered 37, DHQ hospital 21 and the BBH 17 confirmed patients.

“This year, 2,546 dengue cases were brought to the allied hospitals and 2,439 of them have been discharged after recovery,” he said.

Dr Sajjad said 77 patients were under treatment in the HFH, out of which 46 were positive while 46 patients were at the BBH and 15 of them were positive.

Of the total 56 admitted patients hospitalised at the DHQ hospital, 46 were confirmed cases.

He said seven patients were in a critical position at the HFH.
