SUKKUR: A gang of 10 robbers broke into a house and shot dead head of the family in Pir Goth, Khairpur district, late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

Officials at the Kot Mir police station said that the gang of robbers struck at the house of Nisar Ahmed Mangi, 40, and held all those present inside at gunpoint. They collected cash and valuables before leaving the house. The robbers then started untether the buffaloes present outside to also take them away but Mr Mangi came out and posed resistance, they said, adding that one of the robbers opened fire killing him on the spot.

The robbers fled under the cover of firing into the air, residents of the neighbourhood said. They along with the affected family took Mr Mangi’s body to the nearby section of the National Highway to hold a protest over the incident and inaction by the area police.

The bereaved family and their relatives, raising slogans against the police, said that police personnel were present within the village but did

not move while the robbers were fleeing. Both sides of the highway remained blocked during the course of the protest.
