LAHORE: With two more deaths, Punjab reported 462 new positive cases of dengue, including 331 from Lahore, during the last 24 hours.

The total number of positive cases reached 16,346 in Punjab and 12,036 in Lahore since January this year.

Of the new cases, three districts reported more cases than other cities -- Rawalpindi 54, Gujranwala 17 and Kasur nine.

A spokesperson for the health department said Thursday’s two dengue-related deaths were reported from Rawalpindi. He said the total number of deaths in Punjab reached 53, with a majority of them from Lahore.

He said presently 1,629 patients were under treatment in public and private sector hospitals of Lahore while 818 in the hospitals of other districts of the province.

The health experts expect that the number of dengue cases will start decreasing at the start of December as the mosquito carrying virus does not survive in extreme coldness.
