SAHIWAL: Four gunmen were killed in a police encounter on Friday near Yousafwala Railway Station within an hour of a bank robbery on Madhali Road in which they looted Rs3.3 million.
During the robbery, the gunmen injured security guard Faizan and operation manager Sitara Muzamil. Both injured were being treated at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital.
After the robbery, the gunmen escaped in a car. As soon as the police were alerted, Farid Town SHO Rana Asif and SP Shahida Naureen rushed to the scene.
All mobile units became active and one of them spotted the car near Yousafwala level crossing where an exchange of fire took place between the robbers and police officials of Yousafwala, Farid Town and Noorshah.
Of the four deceased, three were identified as Riaz Masih, of Green Town, Lahore; Nadeem Masih, of Sangla Hill, and Andras Masih, of Youhanabad, Lahore. The fourth deceased could not be identified.
Police recovered the looted money, a pistol and a pump action gun on them.
The bodies were shifted to the teaching hospital for an autopsy.
