MULTAN: Scores of protesters on Sunday held a demonstration against the police and blocked the main Razabad Chowk by placing the body of a trader who was killed by gunmen in a robbery.

According to the Sadar police, two gunmen on a motorcycle held Muhammad Younis Siddiqi at gunpoint and deprived him of cash, a mobile phone and his shop’s keys.

As passersby noticed the robbery, they started gathering at the scene which panicked the unidentified dacoits who opened fire at Siddiqui and fled.

The funeral prayer of the deceased was held at the Soraj Miani area and later they placed the body at the main Razabad Chowk and blocked it. They said 28 incidents of dacoity had taken place in the area in the last one month but the police remained unconcerned about the increasing crime ratio. They said that the trader was killed on resistance and the dacoits have no fear of police while due to no patrolling of the police.

They demanded that a comprehensive strategy be devised to control robberies and thefts in the city.
