RAWALPINDI: More than 50 cases of street crime including theft of 12 motorcycles and nine armed robberies were recorded with the police on Thursday.

According to police figures, besides the 12 motorcycles two cars and three rickshaws were also taken away. Vehicle thieves have been operating in the city for the last a couple of months and stolen 3,819 motorcycles from different parts of the city so far this year compared to 3,189 motorcycle stolen in 2020.

Besides, 205 motorbikes were snatched at gunpoint from their owners so far this year, police statistics showed.

Mohammad Mahboob complained to the Banni police that he was working at his hosiery factory when two gunmen snatched away Rs150,000 from him after taking him at gunpoint.

Hassan Javaid, a resident of Sadiqabad, complained to the police that his mother was going to a bazaar when she was intercepted by two motorcycle riders who snatched her gold earrings worth Rs80,000.

Mohammad Shaukat was robbed of Rs20,000 and a mobile phone by two robbers in Pirwadhai, Atif Hussain was robbed of Rs4,500 by two gunmen in New Town while Anas Rashid, a resident of Khayaban-i-Sir Syed complained to the New Town police that his mother was robbed of her gold bracelet worth Rs60,000. He was also deprived of Rs13,000 by two gunmen.
