PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved Rs750 million scholarships for students of seminaries.

The proposed scheme was discussed at a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) chaired by additional chief secretary Shahab Ali Shah.

Details available with Dawn show that Rs500 million had been allocated for scholarships to students of seminaries in settled districts, and Rs250 million for merged districts.

The scholarships would be awarded to students, who had secured no less than 60 per cent marks or equivalent grade in the previously-held examinations. In addition, the candidates should be a student of a recognised and registered seminary.

The scholarships to be awarded to students of different categories would only be allowed to the domicile holders of KP.

The scholarship amount would be paid to the student through a cross-check by the department concerned, while in case of minor students, an order cheque would be issued upon production of Form-B and the guardian’s CNIC.

An official said the scholarships scheme would be advertised in media and the recipients would be selected on merit.
