SWABI: A traffic police constable, who went missing four days ago while returning home after performing his duty, was found dead here on Thursday.

District police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan said the body of constable Ali Akbar, 27, was recovered from the desert of Gajju Khan region after police were informed by local people in this regard.

He said that earlier they conducted operations in various areas and also involved the provincial network of the police, but no clue to the whereabouts of the missing cop could be found.

When contacted, other police officials said that constable Akbar, a resident of Ismalia village of Razaar tehsil, was recently posted in the traffic police and he usually performed his duty in the district headquarters.

The policemen who saw the body said he was shot dead from a close range.

Answering a question, DPO Shoaib said Akbar’s family was having no enmity with anyone and the cause of the incident was not known. “We are investigating the incident from every angle,” he said.

The deceased was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard with complete honour.

Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl district social media coordinator Mohammad Ibrahim drowned in the Indus River on Thursday and a Rescue 1122 team had started search for his body.
