Clarification

Published November 19, 2021

Apropos a news item published in Dawn on Nov 18 under the caption “Bill providing for rapist’s castration adopted”, it is clarified that though the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2021 suggesting strict punishment to rapists was adopted by the joint sitting of parliament on Wednesday, the clause providing for chemical castration of a habitual rapist was omitted from it at the last minute through an amendment moved by Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Maleeka Bokhari.

The error is regretted.
