DANGEROUS TREND

DANGEROUS TREND: Along with smoking, the use of shisha, a moderate form of traditional hooka, is also popular among the youth of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, posing serious health risks to the consumers. It is served with certain flavours and aromatic substances in restaurants and cafes as its use has become more of a fashion symbol. The authorities concerned should enforce the relevant laws to curb the use of shisha.

TEXTBOOK CONTENT: I recently went through the newly prepared Single National Curriculum (SNC) book meant for grade II. Contrary to what have been propagated, the content is good as far as including the pressing issues, like climate change, waste disposal, tree plantation and conservation of natural resources, is concerned. The selection of colours and graphics and their quality is quite poor though. These factors should not be ignored as they play an important role in attracting students’ attention and enhancing their performance.

LIBRARY NEEDED: Shahdadkot, with a population of nearly 2.1 million people, is in need of a library to cater to the academic requirements of the locals. In the absence of any such facility, students usually have to travel to Larkana, some 50km away, to make use of the Shahnawaz Library there. The government should put an end to students’ sufferings.

HEAVY VEHICLES: This is with reference to the letter ‘Heavy vehicles’ (Nov 16). Indeed, heavy vehicles often move into the fast lane on the M9 motorway. Motorcycles and carts are also seen, and the problem gets much worse once you take N55 beyond Jamshoro when even cycles and rickshaws join the track. The motorway police should be as empowered as its counterparts elsewhere in the country. Also, M7 should be completed quickly which will provide heavy vehicles a route running parallel to M9.
