Qasim and Umar help Faisalabad triumph

LAHORE, Nov 19: Fine half-centuries by Qasim Khan and Umar Aziz helped Faisalabad inflict a four-wicket defeat on Lahore Shalimar in the National Inter-region under-19 cricket tournament at the Bohranwali Ground on Saturday.

Faisalabad, who had conceded 62-run lead on first innings, were set to score 269 for win after bowling out Lahore Shalimar in the second innings for 206.

Qasim scored 80 with 10 fours while Umar struck 50 as Faisalabad made 271 for six in 72.3 overs.

Multan, meanwhile, had a close shave before scoring a three-wicket win against defiant Peshawar at the Gymkhana Ground, Okara.

Peshawar, who were forced to follow-on, made a gallant fightback with both ball and the bat. Peshawar made 298 in the second innings with useful contribution made by Shahid Iqbal (83, eight fours).

Multan, chasing 95, lost seven wickets in the process. Slow bowler Inamullah claimed five for 10.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Karachi: Zeeshan Jamil struck a fine century as Karachi Harbour gained first innings points against Lahore Ravi in the drawn match at the KCCA Stadium.

Zeeshan hammered 118 off 171 balls with eight fours and two sixes as Harbour reached 250 for six in the second innings.

Lahore Ravi finished at 154 for seven after asked to chase a target of 277.

Slow left-armer Imran Rafiq took a match haul of 10 for 129 as Islamabad pulled off a nail-biting two-run victory over Abbottabad at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium.
