Lawyers oppose Faisalabad division

Published November 21, 2005

FAISALABAD, Nov 20: The District Bar Association has threatened to stage protest demonstrations if the proposed plan of dividing Faisalabad district into two parts is implemented.

During an emergent DBA meeting held here with president Saleem Jahangir Chattha in the chair, the lawyers community observed that disgruntled politicians were hatching a conspiracy to divide the district due to their defeat in the recent local elections.

Lawyers said there was absolutely no demand from any segment of society about the division or giving the district status to Jaranwala town, but some political figures were bent upon to achieve their nefarious designs.

The house unanimously approved a resolution against the proposed plan adding that a big part of Faisalabad district was separated by giving the district status to the then Toba Tek Singh tehsil.
