RAWALPINDI: Police will seek extension in the physical remand of the alleged killer of Wajiha Farooq Swati, an American national of Pakistani origin woman, his father and servant, who were accused of aiding and abetting the murder.

On the other hand, the police are expecting that Wajiha’s body may be flown to the US within the next two to three days as the police have already completed their investigation.

Her ex-husband Rizwan Habib Bangash, who had confessed to killing her 47-year-old wife, his father and servant had already been in the police custody for the last 10 days as they will be produced in the court of law on Saturday after their physical remand comes to an end.

Wajiha’s lawyer Ms Shabnam Nawaz told Dawn that she would be seeking extension in the remand custody from the court of law on Saturday when they would be produced in the court. She said the police were yet to recover the two mobile phones of Rizwan Habib as the information obtained from the phones would be vital and might help the police to trace the murder of Wajiha’s first husband.

She further revealed that Wajiha Swati had been a rich woman, therefore, she wanted to make investment in property in the UAE where she met Rizwan who dealt in property and gradually they married.

When the City Police Officer Sajid Kiani was contacted, he said the accused in the murder case would be produced in the court on Saturday and the police will be seeking extension in the physical remand.

He further revealed that police have completed its investigation since the dead body had been recovered, DNA test undertaken, her belongings – especially the clothing she was wearing at the time of murder had been retrieved by the police.

“Motive behind the murder was definitely property,” the CPO said.

He said although the shifting of her body was related to her heirs and the embassy, it would take two to three days to complete the process and shifting of her body to the United States.
