LAHORE: The campaign for the annual election of the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) has entered its final round as the polling is scheduled to be held on Saturday next (Jan 8).

There would be a one-on-one contest on the top slot of president between Syed Farhad Ali Shah of Independent group, also known as late Asma Jahangir’s group, and Rao Sami of Hamid Khan-led Professional group.

At present the Independent group is ruling the bar as Malik Sarood was elected president last year defeating Sami with a thin margin.

Sami is again trying his luck against Shah, who is also a sitting member of the Punjab Bar Council.

Ten candidates are in the run for the office of vice president including Ahsan Nawab, Ilyas Habib Chohan, Asif Ameen, Khurram Mir, Sajjad Butt, Saeed Ahmad Qadri, Ayesha Mahmood, Ali Usman, Malik Jahangir and Mian Asad Nisar.

Azmat Zia Sindhu and Hadi Hussain Bhatti are vying for vice president on Model Town seat.

For vice president on Cantonment seat a contest would be held between Shafqat Amin Sindhu and Farrukh Ahmad Khan.

As many as 11 candidates are in the run for the office secretary, three each for joint secretary and finance secretary.

Over 10,000 members of the district bar would exercise their right to vote in the polling to be conducted on the biometric system on Jan 8.
