KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead and another wounded during an encounter off Superhighway on Saturday.

SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area SHO Imam Bux said that the policemen were patrolling the area when they received information that three muggers riding a motorbike were looting people.

The policemen chased the suspects and when they reached near Chand Bungalow in Faqeera Goth, the motorbike of the suspects slipped in accumulated rainwater.

On seeing the police, the suspects fired at them and during an exchange of gunfire both the policemen suffered critical bullet wounds. The suspects managed to escape.

They were taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital where Barkat Ali died during treatment. He was hit in the shoulder and the bullet pierced through his neck. Constable Mohammed Anwar suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen.

The police said the slain constable was single. The deceased and the wounded originally hailed from Thari Mirwah, district Khairpur.

Two ‘TTP militants’ held

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two suspected Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants trained in Afghanistan to carry out terror activities in the metropolis.

“The Shah Latif Town police arrested two suspects identified as Razaullah alias Nasir and Habib alias Sher Habib who belonged to the outlawed TTP,” said a police spokesperson in a statement.

According to the statement, the suspects were trained in Afghanistan and were planning to carry out some terrorism act in the city.
