LAHORE: National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) has completed the work related to the upgrade of the 220kV Lahore’s Wapda Town and 500kV Islamabad grid stations.

With these upgrades, the power transmission and supply in the areas falling within service jurisdiction of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) is expected to improve.

“We have enhanced capacity of the 220kV Wapda Town and 500kV Rawat grids by adding 250MVA transformers,” an NTDC spokesman said in a press release on Monday.

“After upgrade works we have energised these grids safely,” he added.

He said the addition of transformers was planned under the NTDC’s ‘Constraints Removal Scheme’ to provide uninterrupted power supply to the end consumers as per increased load demand for the summer of 2022.

“This will also bring improvement in voltage profile and minimise overloading and tripping of system in the respective areas of Lesco and IESCO,” he said, claiming that both projects were completed before the deadline.

The spokesman further said that besides the commissioning of transformers, the NTDC also energised 3x37 MVAR 500kV shunt reactors for 500kV Rawat-Nokhar Transmission Line.

The equipment helps avoid tripping of transmission line which occurs due to low load conditions during winter, he says.
