TRAUMA CENTRE

Published January 5, 2022

TRAUMA CENTRE: Hub, a prominent city of Balochistan, lacks a trauma centre which is a necessity for every city to provide health cover to emergency cases. The only government hospital in the city, which remains full of patients throughout the day, has no specialised surgeon to deal with critical cases, and the patients have to be taken all the way to Karachi. And not every such case is able to make it in time. The authorities concerned must look into the issue.

STREET LIGHTS: There was a time when Karachi was called the city of lights, but that era has gone long ago. Now the city is blanketed in darkness of all kinds almost all the time. A point in case is of the pathway towards Jauhar Chowrangi from Samama where there is no street light, resulting in frequent incidents of looting and snatching. Ironically, there is an office of Karachi Electric (KE) in the area. The KE would do well to at least brighten up an area that is right under its proverbial nose.

SOUL SEARCHING: It is common in our society to blame the government for all the social ills we are suffering from, but are not we, the ones who elect these governments, should be held responsible? Is not our society at large is responsible for misdeeds, like corruption, bribery, traffic violations, commercial dishonesty, etc? It will take more than a generation to rectify our own behaviour. We need to do some soul-searching before holding our leaders accountable.

COMMENDABLE STEP: The government has taken a good step by intro-ducing a law against corporal punishment. Traditionally, students, who have been at the receiving end of physical abuse and verbal insults at the hands of teachers, only learn to practice hatred. The new law will hopefully bring about an improvement.
