KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in harassing and blackmailing several students of Karachi University.

Additional Director Imran Riaz of the cyber crime wing of the agency said that both the suspects, identified as Fazal Dad and Adnan Ali lived in KU staff town. One of them was a rickshaw driver and another worked for a university teacher as driver.

He said that the suspects made videos of boys and girls sitting in their vehicles or at some secluded place in the varsity without their consent.

He said a girl student, who he termed a ‘brave lady’, came forward and lodged a complaint against the suspects that they were forcing her to meet in private, pay a ransom or ready to face consequences.

The official said that digital equipment were seized from the suspects and sent for a forensic analysis and the report of the forensics established that they were involved in blackmailing and harassing at least 14 KU students.

However, besides one, remaining students had refused to come forward because of privacy concerns, he added.

“Further investigations are under way to ascertain the possibility of involvement of any other person,” said an FIA statement.
