MUZAFFARGARH: Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha on Friday paid a surprise visit to Muzaffargarh and distributed 600 bags of urea among the farmers under his supervision.

He also warned Deputy Director Agriculture Dr Shaukat Ali Abid and Assistant Director Jalilur Rehman of suspension from service over bad arrangements for distribution of urea.

The commissioner, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza, distributed the fertilser among the farmers at the government rates in an effort to steamline the distribution of urea and to control its artificial shortage. He issued instructions to the officials to provide the farmers with the fertiliser on the spot as per their requirement.

The commissioner examined the record of sale and purchase of fertiliser at Chowk Qureshi in some shops. He asked the deputy commissioner to take the dealers into confidence to ensure availability of the fertiliser, saying that every sack of the quota for the district should be distributed among the farmers and a close liaison with the fertiliser companies should be kept.

Talking to the farmers, Mr Chatha said the government would take all possible steps to resolve their problems.
