KOHAT: Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Shehryar Afridi has urged Ehsan Khan, who was elected mayor of the Lachi tehsil as an independent, to rejoin the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Mr Afridi visited the residence of the annoyed leader and told him that he (Mr Afridi) was ‘bypassed’ in award of tickets for the local body elections in his constituency.

The lawmaker claimed that his hands were tied and decisions were made somewhere else. However, he clarified that Prime Minister Imran Khan was not aware of the decisions made by the PTI’s provincial organisation in awarding the tickets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “As soon as the premier became aware of the fact he did not waste a second in dissolving all the organisations and decided to himself oversee the award of tickets in the second phase of the local government polls,” the MNA told Mr Ehsan.

He urged the disgruntled leader to forget all hot feelings and rejoin the party.

Mr Afridi promised the Lachi mayor-elect all funds for the tehsil would be approved with his consent.

NEW DPO TAKES CHARGE: Newly-appointed district police officer, Kohat, Mohammad Suleman took charge of his office on Friday and visited the monument of the martyrs at the police lines and offered Fateha.

A statement issued here said earlier he took a salute of honour from a police contingent upon his arrival at the police club.

Speaking to the policemen, Mr Suleman vowed to leave no stone unturned in providing better policing to the public.

He advised his subordinate officials to make all-out efforts for upholding rule of law and establishing durable peace in the district.
