TAXILA: For the execution of 12 road projects in various parts of Attock, Rs1.2 billion will be spent in the current fiscal year and a campus of Attock University will be established in the remote areas of the district.

Minister for Revenue retired Col Malik Mohammad Anwar Khan said this while addressing a ceremony held to start re-carpeting of Fatehjang to Khoar and Khoar to Pindigheb via Dhalian and Dhok Pathan road on Sunday.

Chief engineer of Punjab Highway Department Riaz Ahmed, Executive Engineer Mian Iftikhar Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner (Fatehjang) Ghulam Mustafa Jutt, Assistant Commissioner (Pindigheb) Kamran Sagheer and other officials were also present. The 74-km-long road, passing through remote areas of Pindigheb, Jand and Fatehjang would be completed at a cost of Rs4.6 billion.

Mr Khan said Rs12 million would be spent on improvement of the 12km road from Jail Chowk to Sultan Chowk, Rs13.2 million on construction of the 1.2km Sanjwal factory to Tariqabad road, Rs14.1 million on rehabilitation of the 4.5km Dhaknair village road, Rs14.6 million on construction of causeway over Shakardara Nullah, Rs13.04 million on the construction of the 0.8km Dhoke Syedan link road and rehabilitation of the 1.7km Dhoke Sanjwal road and Rs77.8 million on rehabilitation and improvement of the 7.7km road from Choi Bungalow to Dheri Kot.

He said this road will also benefit other areas of Tehsil Jand, Fatehjang and Pindigheb and help generate economic activities as presently the route was abandoned.

A separate campus of Attock University would also be established in this rural area to facilitate the youth.
