LAHORE: A couple was killed and their son was injured after six gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on their car in the Kahna area here on Tuesday.

The suspects first shot dead Salamat Ali and his wife, Zubaida, and then chased their young son Atif Salamat when he ran away to save his life.

The witnesses told the police the desperate attackers fired five shots and injured Atif after a brief chase in a street and fled.

The armed attack created panic in the vicinity.

Atif was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries. The police lodged a murder case against Safdar, Arslan, Sabar, Sajid and two unidentified men.

According to the FIR, Salamat had an enmity with the attackers over some property disputes and both sides were pursuing litigation in murder and attempted murder cases in the courts.

Atif stated in the FIR that his father and other family members were ambushed by the armed men when they were going to drop his sister in a seminary.

He said the six gunmen were riding three motorbikes.

The police sent bodies to the city morgue for autopsy and launched further investigations into the double murder case.
