MITHI: Aqeel Ahmed finished top in Stock Category A of the desert jeep race of the Thar Sports Festival here on Saturday.

With co-driver Mohammad Shahzada, Aqeel finished the 100km track on the outskirts of Mithi in one hour, 19 minutes and 47 seconds, ahead of Mir Amir Magsi and Berbark Baloch.

In Stock Category B, Sultan Bahadur Aziz topped the timesheets ahead of Bismillah Magsi and Rabnawaz Joya while Hassan Jhandir and Shakeel Bharchundi finished first in Stock Cateogory C and D respectively.

Dina Ronnie Patel won the women’s stock race ahead of Nida Wasti, the only other competitor in that category.

Both women racers applauded the efforts of the organisers to hold the rally, saying that events would promote healthy sporting activities in the region as well as promote tourism.

Camel and horse races as well as Malakhra contests were held on the second day of the festival while Narsing won the marathon featuring 60 competitors.
