GWADAR: Senior government officials, political and social leaders and representatives of the fishermen community have discussed proposals for bringing an improvement in the Gwadar Old City Master Plan.

At an open forum, organised by the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) on Friday, the participants pointed out problems in the master plan and suggested their solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, GDA Director-General Mujeebur Rehman Qambrani said that the future of Gwadar is bright because the port city would become the economic hub of the country.

He said a plan has been made under which roads and playgrounds would be constructed in the city. Besides, measures would be taken for the protection of the city’s historical places, including Shahi Bazaar and Jannat Bazaar. The condition of hospitals, schools and the sewerage and drainage system would be improved, he added.

Mr Qambrani said the people of Gwadar faced problems during recent rains because the work on the city’s sewerage and drainage system was still in progress.

He said tourism in the city would be promoted by preserving its heritage sites, including Old Bazaar and Jannat Bazaar.

Maulana Hidayatur Rehman, Adam Qadir Bakhsh of National Party, Mohammad Hayatan, Maula Bakhsh Mujahid of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Arif Abdullah, Haji Khudadad of the Fishermen Alliance presented suggestions for bringing improvement in the master plan.
