TAFTAN: People on Sunday blocked the main highway in protest against prolonged suspension of electricity to many localities in the town.

The protesters, including a few office-bearers of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, chanted slogans against the Quetta Electric Supply Company for not repairing several electricity transformers which had gone out of order two months ago and caused power breakdown in many localities.

They alleged that the electricity company had left them to fend for themselves as previously on several occasions they collected money from local residents to get the transformers repaired, but unfortunately electricity was not restored, compelling them to take to the street.

The protesters suspended their protests for three days and opened the road to traffic after Taftan Assistant Commissioner Asmatullah Achakzai assured them of steps to solve their problems.
