BAJAUR: The municipal authorities on Wednesday removed encroachments in the Inayat Kallay Bazaar here on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters, Khar tehsil municipal officer Faiz Khan said the anti-encroachment drive was initiated on the complaints of transporters and residents about mushrooming growth of eateries and other stalls on the footpaths on both sides of the main road.

He said a few days ago a TMA team had visited the bazaar and asked the traders’ association to ensure removal of all encroachments voluntarily within four days, but to no avail.

Mr Faiz said the municipal authorities had to launch the operation to remove the encroachments.

The official said scores of stalls and fruit and vegetable outlets were removed.

The TMO said several signboards and billboards were also removed. He said the operation was necessary to ensure smooth traffic flow and pedestrian movement through the bazaar.

Meanwhile, a group of vendors held a demonstration against the TMA action. The protesters raised slogans against the TMA for dismantling their outlets, thus depriving them of livelihood source.

SEVEN INJURED ON ROAD: Seven persons were injured when two vehicles collided on the Inayat Kallay-Laghari Road in Kamar Sar area of Mamond tehsil on Wednesday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said the mishap occurred when a pick-up vehicle of a medicines company hit a non-custom paid car coming from the opposite direction on a sharp turn.

The official said most of the injured persons were travelling in the car. A rescue team shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar.

The rescue officials said condition of two of the wounded persons was critical.
