CHARSADDA: The Bacha Khan University on Thursday observed the sixth anniversary of a terrorist attack on its campus, which left 14 students and four employees martyred.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Bashir Ahmad and district police officer Suhail Khan laid wreath on the memorial of martyrs and offered Fateha.

A Frontier Constabulary contingent presented a guard of honour. The students, teachers and other staff members attended the Quran khwani on the lawns of the university.

There followed a condolence reference in the main hall of the university for martyrs. The participants included the VC, DPO, the martyrs’ relatives, employees and students.

The VC said the martyrdom of students and employees won’t go to waste and that it led to the restoration of peace in the country.

He said the university would offer free education to siblings of the martyred students.

Later, a collective pray was offered for the deceased and national security and progress.

LAND RECOVERED: The district administration on Thursday recovered around 80 kanals of the irrigation department’s land from an illegal housing scheme in Hajizai area in Shabqaddar tehsil here.

The recovered riverside land was valued at around Rs11.71 million. The administration used machinery to pull down the housing society’s offices and pylons.

Additional deputy commissioner Sania Safi, who led the operation, said no one would be allowed to put up structures alongside the River Kabul to prevent damage to public life and property in case of floods.
