HARIPUR: The teachers of University of Haripur boycotted their classes for the second consecutive day on Thursday to protest a ‘long delay’ in pay raise.

The protesters, who also staged a sit-in for two hours on the lawns of the administration block, insisted that the pay raise announced by the government was being disbursed to teachers of other universities in the province.

The university’s Academic Staff Association said it approached the vice-chancellor directly and through the senate, syndicate and academic council for the grant of disparity reduction allowance, teaching allowance, MS allowance, MPhil and PhD supervision honorarium, and 20 per cent pay raise due since July 2021, but to no avail.

It claimed that the university had a surplus budget but wasn’t meeting the teachers’ genuine demands.

The association said teachers of other public sector universities in the province drew those benefits.

When contacted, UoH registrar Prof Riaz Mohammad said the vice-chancellor had formed a 15-member committee to examine the teachers’ demands and make recommendations within a week.

He said hopefully, the matter would be resolved shortly.
