SWABI: The Yar Hussain Jirga members and the police on Saturday vowed to jointly work for eradicating social evils from society and maintaining peace in the region.

The jirga members led by former provincial forest minister Awwal Sher Khan and police officials led by district police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan discussed the cooperation at a meeting held at a hujra here.

SP investigations Fayyaz Khan and SHOs of various police stations also participated in the meeting aimed to eradicate drug menace, gambling, curb theft incidents, and resolve blood and land disputes for ensuring durable peace in the society.

The jirga members underscored the need for public-police liaison for resolving the issues. They stressed that peace was prerequisite for progress and prosperity of the society.

“We are ready to cooperate with the police in resolving disputes of different nature through peaceful means to save precious lives and resources of people,” said Awwal Sher Khan.

DPO Shoaib said police were ready to play their role in disputes resolution with the help of jirga members. He directed the SHOs not to register FIRs on minor issues till they received a green signal from the jirga or dispute resolution council.
