LAHORE: Punjab reported eight more Covid-19 deaths during the last 24 hours, with virus positivity rate reaching 15.8 in Lahore and 12.5 in Rawalpindi, respectively.

The official figures on Tuesday showed the number of deaths caused by the virus were gradually increasing. Of the eight deaths, five were reported in Lahore, two in Sheikhupura and one in Multan.

Similarly, the total number of Covid infections in Punjab reached 466,210 after 2,109 more people tested positive during the last 24 hours. Of these, 1,175 were reported in Lahore, 200 in Rawalpindi, 61 in Faisalabad and 45 in Sialkot.

Provincial health secretary says the infection is persistently spreading in Punjab, particularly in Lahore, Rawalpindi and other major cities of the province and his department has issued new guidelines to the healthcare facilities in the province for disease prevention and treatment of the patients.

“We have dispatched new guidelines for various sectors to curtail the virus”, the secretary said.

He says taking preventive measures and full vaccination of the entire adult population are the only steps that would help overcome the disease.
