KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency on Wednesday conducted raids on four different places and arrested 13 persons allegedly involved in hawala/hundi and other illegal activities.

The raids were conducted on a tip-off provided by an intelligence agency.

An FIA spokesperson said: “The held suspects are linked with a foreign intelligence agency.”

He said the FIA seized $18,000, over Rs20 million and other foreign currencies.

He claimed that the suspects were employees of the Swiss Exchange Company and the group had been active in Pakistan since seven years.

The FIA said the held suspects provided help and cash to Pakistani network of foreign intelligence agencies. It said that suspects extended “protection to enemies of Pakistan” and provided “sensitive information” to the foreign agency.
