KARACHI: A man was shot dead in Surjani Town over a property dispute, police said on Saturday.

They said Kafay Mohammed, 47, was gunned down near Chippa Centre, late on Friday night.

Area SHO Haji Sanaullah said that the victim had a dispute with some people over some property in the area.

The police registered case against five men on the complaint of the deceased’s son.

Woman dies, husband hurt in fire

A young woman burned to death and her husband suffered injuries when a fire broke out in their apartment in New Karachi, police said.

Area SHO Shajid Taj said that the fire erupted due to some gas leakage in the flat in Sector 11-D, Water Board Quarters, late on Friday night. Consequently, Naheed, 38, died of burns while her husband, Junaid Islam, 50, suffered burns on the hands while trying to put out the fire.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

The officer said they were investigating the case and waiting for report of the forensic lab about the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Rangers and police on Saturday jointly carried out an intelligence-based raid in the Sachal area, arrested an alleged kidnapper and recovered a boy abducted around 10 days ago.

A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said that the held suspect, Liaquat Khan, had kidnapped the eight-year-old boy on Jan 19 and demanded Rs200,000 as ransom from the boy’s father.

The law enforcers detained the suspect and on a lead provided by him recovered the boy safely. The suspect was handed over to police for further legal action.
