LAHORE: A district and sessions court on Monday extended pre-arrest bail of the former director-general of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Bashir Memon, in three inquiries and restrained the agency from arresting him till Feb 22.

Memon accompanied by his counsel appeared before the court on the expiry of his bail.

A counsel for the FIA told the court that the investigation against the petitioner had not been completed so far. He said a joint investigation team has been formed in the inquiries against the petitioner.

The court extended the bail of Memon and sought a progress report from the FIA by the next hearing.

The FIA initiated three inquiries against its former head for money laundering, fraud and aiding a suspect wanted in a financial crime case.

Memon argued that all the inquiries initiated against him were baseless and politically motivated.

MEERA: A sessions court on Monday dismissed a petition of actress Meera against a decision of a family court that rejected her plea to her nikahnama (marriage document) with a local businessman, Attiqur Rehman, fabricated once.

In a short verdict, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Hussain dismissed the appeal of the actress and upheld the decision of the family court. The actress claimed that Rehman prepared a fake nikahnama showing her as his wife only to grab her property. She denied having any relation with Rehman and accuses him of blackmailing her by claiming to be her husband.
