ISLAMABAD: The spouse of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Member National Assembly (MNA) Javeria Zafar was arrested on Wednesday and a local court sent him to Adiala jail on 14 days judicial remand for threatening and firing at her.
MNA Zafar lodged an FIR with the Women police station in Islamabad against her husband, Haider Ali Baloch, alleging that he attempted to kill her over a petty issue.
According to the FIR, the man contracted forced marriage with the lawmaker some six months ago and she had intended to file a suit for dissolution of marriage (Khula). However, Baloch threatened her of dire consequences and said he would kill her and her family members.
The FIR went on to state that Baloch then pulled out a gun from a cupboard and aimed at her temple and fired a shot, however, she managed to escape and the bullet hit the wall, the FIR said, adding that the complainant then called the police.
In the FIR, the lawmaker requested the police to take legal action against her husband and said he would be responsible in case of any harm she or her family suffered.
The police produced Baloch before the civil judge/judicial magistrate Malak Aman.
The judge sent him to jail for a fortnight and directed the police to produce the accused on Feb 16.
When contacted, Sub-Divisional Police Officer ASP Beenish Fatima said a case had been registered against the man in response to a complaint lodged by the PTI lawmaker.
The accused has been arrested and since the complainant was a woman the case was registered with Women police station under PPC 324, ASP Fatima said, adding that however, the Secretariat police are investigating the case as the incident took place in their limits.
