PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has completed most of work for making reforms in the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and strategy is being chalked out for the implementation.

An official statement issued here on Tuesday said that a high-level meeting discussed various aspects of the proposed reforms in CrPC.

The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was informed that most of the work on necessary reforms in CrPC had been completed.

A strategy was also being prepared for implementation of those reforms in consultation with the stakeholders. The participants were briefed about various aspects of the proposed reforms in CrPC and it was stated that the government had completed most of the work on necessary reforms in the law.

The chief minister said that dispensation of speedy justice to general public was one of the top priorities of the government.

He said that reforms in CrPC were the need of hour to ensure easy access of the common man to justice. He directed Chief Secretary Shahzad Bangash to lead the overall process of reforms, adding the entire process of reforms in CrPC be finalised within a month.

The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure full consultation with the relevant stakeholders, including judiciary and lawyers, in finalising the reforms process.

He said that the provincial government would provide the required financial resources on priority for implementation of the reforms.
