KARACHI: Three people were killed when a dumper truck collided head-on with their car in Baldia Town on Tuesday, police said.

They said that the car carrying three persons was moving towards the city area when the dumper truck coming in the opposite direction hit it close to Baldia Mor bus stop near Northern Bypass.

The car, they said, was hit with so much force that it tumbled over multiple times and dashed against the island between two lanes.

“The dumper driver and his aide ran away leaving behind the vehicle,” said an official at the Mochko police station. “It took more than half hour to remove the bodies from the car. All the three died on the spot and we could only identify them through their identity cards in their pockets.”

He said they were identified as 50-year-old Habibullah, 37-year-old Hanif Saleh and 35-year-old Bilal Ahmed. The victims were residents of Chaman, Balochistan.

The bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue and police were trying to reach out to their families.

Man shot dead

A 40-year-old man was shot dead by armed pillion riders near Shireen Jinnah Colony.

Area police said Abdul Jabbar was targeted when he was walking to a grocery store. He was shot in the chest and head and died on the spot.

An official at the Boat Basin police station said the victim had moved to Karachi recently from Bajaur. The murder might be motivated by some personal enmity, he added.
