DADU: A house officer has accused three officials of the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women in Nawabshah of attempting to beat her to death on her refusal to bow to their “unethical” demands, and claimed that no MBBS student had ever committed suicide, all had been killed.

Parveen Rind, a resident of Dadu, who was doing her house job at the nursing section of the medical university claimed in a video uploaded onto social media on Wednesday that the three officials beat her after shutting her up in the hostel room.

She showed torture marks on her arms in the video and said that she was being forced by the officials to follow their “unethical” orders.

The trio had been harassing her since her first year in the MBBS in the university, she said.

She said that they attempted to kill her like other girls before her. Earlier, the trio had also tried to snatch her mobile phone to blackmail her after they failed to force her into submission, she said.

She said while crying that no student had committed suicide in hostels, apparently referring to mysterious deaths of Dr Nimrita and Dr Nosheen Shah in their hostel rooms in Chandka Medical College, Larkana, Naila Rind’s death in her hostel room in Sindh University, and Dr Asmat Rajput’s ‘suicide’ in her home in Sita Road town. All had been killed, she claimed.

She said that she had suffered enough but now she was disclosing it all before media to protect her life and honour.

In fact, no girl was safe in the university’s hostel, she said.

She said that she had also met Sindh Minister for Health Dr Azra Pechuho that day and demanded providing her justice and protection but she did nothing for her.

She appealed to chief justices of Supreme Court and Sindh High Court to take notice of her appeals and ensure she was served justice.

Later in the day, the alleged victim accompanied by Ali Nawaz Rind, a local leader of Pakistan Peoples Party’s Dadu chapter, arrived at the A-Section police station to register an FIR against the three officials but police issued her a letter instead for medical examination and verification of the claims.

Nawabshah SSP Amir Saood Magsi told Dawn that a committee led by City DSP Sultan Chandio and SHO of women police station had been formed to probe the girl’s claims and submit a report within three days.

Police had, however, started the investigation right away without waiting for the report, he said.

The university’s registrar rejected Ms Rind’s statement in a press release and said that no such incident had taken place on Wednesday.

Her allegations were baseless as the university administration wanted to reassign hostel rooms among students and house officers but Ms Rind refused to shift to another room, said the registrar.

Ms Rind’s uncle Ali Nawaz Rind rebutted the registrar’s statement and said the three officials she had named in her video did attempt to kill her after she refused to bow to their demands.

He demanded registration of an FIR against the three officials.
