HYDERABAD/DADU: A team of health officers led by Director General of Sindh Health Services Dr Juman Bahuto visited the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad, to start a probe into the allegation of harassment and attempted murder levelled by a nurse (house officer), Parveen Rind, against three officials but neither she nor the main suspect appeared before them to record their statements.

Ms Rind was contacted over phone by the team but she said she had lodged a case which was pending in court and, therefore, she would not record her statement before the inquiry committee.

Ms Rind has completed her course as nurse and been doing her internship at the hospital since last December.

The suspected official told the team that he would record his statement before the DG Health Services in the latter’s office on Saturday.

The team visited the place of offence identified by Ms Rind and collected some documents. It also recorded statements of all those who were believed to be related to the matter.

Meanwhile, Ms Rind along with her uncle and social activist Zulfiqar Khaskheli, held a protest demonstration outside the Nawabshah Press Club against delay in the arrest of the main suspect.

She alleged that universities in Sindh were held hostage by certain criminal officers, who were harassing innocent women. The protesters said that police had assured them that the main suspect would be arrested with in 12 hours [of the incident] but this did not happen.
