SWABI: The Young Club Tarakai won the Anti-Drugs Volleyball Tournament by defeating Almansoor Club of Yar Hussain in a tough match here on Saturday.
The organisers said that the tournament was aimed at luring the youngsters to sports and reducing the gap between the people and police of the district.
Volleyball teams from across the district participated in the tournament. Two teams of police,including Swabi Police Club and Net Swabi, lost their matches in semifinals and the final was played between Young Club Tarakai and Almansoor Club Yar Hussain.
Almansoor Club won the first two sets. However, Young Club Tarakai staged a fine comeback and won the next three sets and lifted the trophy.
The winner team of the tournament was awarded with a trophy and cash award of Rs15,000, while the runner-up team got a trophy and Rs10,000 cash award.
The speakers said on the occasion that it was a good omen that the youngsters were involved in healthy activities to keep them away from drugs.
District police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan and SP investigation Fayaz Khan said that they would regularly arrange such sports activities. The local people lauded the organisersfor arranging the tournament.
