KOHAT: The lawyers at a protest meeting held here on Saturday demanded the appointment of inspectors as the SHOs of police stations instead of giving the job to inexperienced sub-inspectors (SIs) and assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) in order to effectively improve law and order situation in the district.

Speaking at the protest, president lawyers’ association Javed Panji said under the law SHO must be of the rank of inspector. He said SIs and ASIs had been appointed as SHOs, and that too on rotational basis. He said SHOs were transferred from one police station to another after one year.

He said the district police officer should list the support of public in eradicating the menace of drug peddling and criminals.

Mr Panji said the police-public liaison committees had become ineffective due to a lack of interest by police officials. He also demanded of the district police officer to increase street patrolling to check crimes.

COMMUNITY DIALOGUE: Speakers at a community dialogue held on Saturday called for interfaith harmony for peaceful society.

The forum was organised by IDEA Aawaz-II Programe, which is managed by the British Council. It was held in connection with the World Interfaith Harmony Week 2022.

The participants of the dialogue emphasised that the Constitution of Pakistan protected the rights of religious minorities. They stressed that people of different faiths should recognise the common values of love and promote a strong message of peace in their respective communities.

They said inclusion of marginalised and vulnerable groups in the mainstream was key to the country’s development.
