TOBA TEK SINGH: Police claimed on Sunday to have arrested one of the three suspects allegedly involved in the gang rape and murder of a girl, committed two days ago.

Syed Mubeen Ahsan, a spokespersons for Faisalabad city police officer (CPO), said the prime suspect, Faryad Ali, was arrested by Garh police, while raids were being conducted to nab his two accomplices and a woman facilitator.

He said quoting the FIR registered by Garh police that the victim Rajan Bibi’s father, Bashir Ahmed, of Darbar Murad Shah Dakhli, Tandlianwala, said that Perveen, a woman of the same locality, lured his daughter to a sugarcane field, where Faryad and his two unidentified accomplices were already present.

The father said the suspects took turns to gang-rape his daughter and later forced her to take poison.

After she was found in a critical condition by her family, she was rushed to Tandlianwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where doctors referred her to the Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, but she died there.

The CPO’s spokesperson said Faryad told the police investigators that Rajan Bibi wanted to marry him, but he refused, and in a fit of dejection she committed suicide by taking poison.

However, Mr Ahsan said that in a video clip uploaded on social media, Rajan Bibi had accused Faryad and his two accomplices of making her drink some poisonous liquid.

DRUG SEIZED: The Airport Security Force (ASF) claimed to have recovered 1.5 kilogram ice narcotic from a passenger’s luggage at the Faisalabad International Airport on Sunday.

As per the ASF, the suspect, a resident of Khyber Agency, was to board a flight for Sharjah en route to Bahrain. He was later handed over to the Anti Narcotic Force.

INJURED: A suspected robber, who was in custody, was allegedly injured seriously when his gang members attempted to free him during a crossfire with police late on Saturday.

People’s Colony police claimed that four gunmen attacked a police party and freed a suspect, Ali Raza, who was in their custody, near Rafhan Corn Mills on the Canal Road.

They said more police force was called and a crossfire took place between them and the gunmen.

During the crossfire, the police claimed, Ali Raza was hit by bullets fired by the gunmen, leaving him criticality wounded. He was admitted to the DHQ hospital.

Police claimed the injured suspect was wanted in 17 robbery and theft cases registered against him with different police stations.

GUTTED: Wooden furniture and raw material worth millions of rupees was gutted on Sunday when a fire erupted in godown at Barnala on Chiniot Road, Faisalabad.

Rescue 1122 reported that the fire broke out due to electricity short circuit.

CHILD DIES: A child died while his mother and uncle were injured seriously when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a bus parked on Sheikhupura Road near Chak Ghaseet Pura on Sunday morning.

Rescue 1122 said the accident took place due to dense fog in the morning.

The deceased child was identified as Sameeullah (4), while the injured included his mother Fauzia (35) and his uncle Husnain (15).
