SHANGLA: A spring tree plantation drive was launched in Shangla district on Wednesday, during which around 1.7 million saplings will be sowed.

Forest department’s chief conservator for Malakand Range-III, Farhatullah Khan inaugurated the drive in Alpuri.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr Farhatullah stressed on people to plant saplings in their respective areas to make the region clean and green.

He directed the forest department staff to achieve the targets of the tree plantation campaign in their respective circles and also ensure safety of the planted trees.

Shangla divisional forest officer Faizur Rehman said the department had set a target of planting 1,698,000 saplings on 2,377 acres of land during the campaign.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner, Bisham, Aniq Awar inaugurated the drive in the tehsil by planting saplings on the premises of government higher secondary school in Butyal.

Teachers and students also planted saplings.

Speaking at a function held on the occasion, he asked students to play role in creating awareness among people about the benefits of trees and their impact on environment.
