GUJRAT: Seven students and a teacher were injured when the roof of a private school collapsed as a result of air exhaust of a helicopter near Pind Daden Khan, Jhelum, on Wednesday.

Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Numan Hafeez Kalair told Dawn that a private school was being run in a building at Dhudhi Phaphara village where its roof collapsed resulting in injuries to eight people.

He said four of the seriously injured, including a teacher, were admitted to the Pind Daden Khan THQ Hospital and as many were later discharged after first aid.

He said two of the injured were later on shifted to a Rawalpindi hospital for being in a critical condition.

It is learnt that the building is owned by a retired police sub-inspector and the school management had got it on a monthly rent.

Official sources said the Pind Daden Khan assistant commissioner had dispatched a detailed report to the Jhelum DC in which he mentioned that the incident occurred at around 1:45pm due to the air exhaust of a helicopter when the students were present in a classroom. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to the THQ Hospital.

Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has expressed his concern over the incident and directed the Jhelum DC to submit a detailed report and take measures for better treatment of the injured.
