MARDAN: Anjuman-i-Kashtkaran has demanded of the government to reduce the markup on agricultural loans and abolish the 28 per cent general sales tax on crop seeds.

A meeting of members of the farmers’ organisation was held here on Sunday to discuss ways to secure relief from the government for the growers.

Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Anjuman-i-Kashtkaraan provincial president Niamat Shah Roghani said that urea compost was urgently required for the wheat crop these days, but unfortunately it was available only in the black market at the price double than the officially notified.

He demanded the government to allow subsidy on seeds, fertilisers and other farm inputs like the previous rulers to provide relief to the farmers and bring down commodity prices.

Mr Roghani claimed that the farmers were compelled to cut electricity connections from their agricultural tube-wells due to lack of resources.
