KARACHI: The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) will soon establish a robotic surgery unit at its Chablani Medical Center, a fully fledged hospital in Sukkur.
The proposed unit is likely to start functioning by the end of next month.
A spokesperson for the SIUT said robotic surgery described as the “surgery of the future” in medical science had gained immense importance in the developed world because, among other benefits, “it leaves little surgical scars, causes less loss of blood and leads to limited stay of patient at hospital”.
“The robotic unit of SIUT Karachi has already performed more than 1,000 surgeries over the past few months. All surgeries at the institute are provided free of cost,” he said.
SIUT director Prof Adib Rizvi had informed the Sindh chief minister about the institute’s important initiative in Sukkur in a recent communication, he added.
